Description

Cher is a round side table made from 100% iron, and its shape is the whole point. A flat circular top, 43cm across, rests on two sheets of metal: a flat upright panel on one side and a wide panel that drops beneath the top in a deep U before rising to meet it again. That curve turns the space under the table into an open rack, so one small piece does the work of a side table and a magazine holder. At 38cm tall it is a low side table, and at 8.86KG it has a solid weight for its size. Every surface is finished in red.

Set it beside a sofa or a low armchair and the loop keeps the books and magazines you are reading within reach, rather than in a pile on the floor. The round top has room for a table lamp, a plant or a stack of paperbacks, so it is just as useful beside a bed or in a reading nook. Being low and compact, it slips into the gap between pieces of furniture in a living room, a bedroom or a snug. The red gives a quiet room a confident point of colour without asking for much floor space.

The top and both panels are iron throughout, with a powder-coated finish. Powder coating is applied as a dry powder and then cured with heat, which leaves an even colour across flat and curved surfaces alike, and iron itself is a dense, rigid metal. Look at the straight panel side on and you will see it ends in a small folded foot where it meets the floor, a neat detail on a piece made from so few parts. For styling, let the red sit against a plain wall and a pale wood floor, and keep the loop to a few well-chosen books so its curve still shows.
