Chameli Mango Wood Table Lamp Base - Natural

The Chameli is a lamp base turned from mango wood into a long tapered column, 45cm high and 12cm across at the foot, narrowing steadily to a brass collar at the top. It is built from pieces of wood stacked and joined rather than cut from a single log, and the joins show as horizontal bands where the tone changes from pale cream to a warm brown. A black lampholder with a shade ring sits on the brass collar, and a rust coloured cord runs from the foot with a switch on it.

This is a base only: no shade and no bulb. At 45cm tall and only 12cm across the foot it takes almost no surface, which is what makes it work on a narrow sideboard or a console where a wide base would crowd whatever stands beside it. It weighs 5.42kg, so the solid wood is doing the job a weighted base usually does. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, the cord runs 2.5m with a switch on it, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The column is mango wood, and because the pieces are taken as the workshop has them rather than matched, the bands of tone run differently on every base. The collar is brass. The Chameli range also holds a floor lamp base in the same tapered shape. Neither a shade nor a bulb is included.

Does it come with a shade?

No. It is the base only, with a black lampholder and a shade ring on top. Supplied without a shade.

Why does the colour change up the column?

It is built from pieces of mango wood stacked and joined, and the pieces are not matched for tone, so the joins read as horizontal bands of lighter and darker wood.

Is there a switch on the cord?

Yes. The switch sits on the 2.5m cord, so the lamp is switched at the cord rather than at the socket.

Will the wood stay the same colour?

Mango wood changes tone over time. Oiling it will nourish the wood and may darken it, and the oil needs reapplying if it is washed off.
