Description

The Knightsbridge CAT6a RJ45 network outlet provides a single shuttered RJ45 socket behind a raised-edge antique brass faceplate, rated for 10Gbps Ethernet over distances up to 100m at 500MHz bandwidth. The outlet uses IDC termination for tool-free cable connection and supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices including IP cameras, VoIP phones and wireless access points.

Designed for residential, office and hospitality installations where CAT6a cabling is already in place, the outlet fits a standard UK single-gang back box with 35mm minimum depth. The raised-edge plate sits 10.5mm proud of the wall, with a 22.9mm recess behind the faceplate to accommodate the terminated cable and module. The shutter mechanism protects the RJ45 port from dust and debris when no cable is inserted.

The antique brass finish is applied over a 430 stainless steel ingot-style faceplate, giving a warm aged-metal appearance that pairs with traditional, period and warm-toned contemporary interiors. The outlet is backward-compatible with CAT6 and CAT5e cabling, though network performance will be limited by the lowest-rated component in the installation. Operating temperature range is -10°C to 60°C, suitable for most indoor environments.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between CAT6a and CAT6?

CAT6a supports 10Gbps speeds over the full 100m cable run at 500MHz bandwidth, while standard CAT6 is typically rated for 10Gbps only over shorter distances (up to 55m) at 250MHz. CAT6a also provides better shielding against crosstalk. This outlet is rated for CAT6a performance, but requires certified CAT6a cabling throughout the installation to achieve full spec.

Does it support Power over Ethernet (PoE)?

Yes. The outlet supports PoE, PoE+ and PoE++ devices including IP cameras, VoIP phones, wireless access points and other network-powered equipment. The PoE capability depends on the switch or injector at the other end of the cable run, not the outlet itself.

What back box depth is needed?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is required. The outlet module and terminated cable sit 22.9mm behind the faceplate, with the raised-edge plate adding 10.5mm projection from the wall once fitted.

Is it backward-compatible with CAT5e or CAT6 cabling?

Yes. The outlet accepts CAT5e, CAT6 and CAT6a cables, but the network performance will be limited by the lowest-rated component in the installation. For example, pairing this outlet with CAT5e cabling will deliver CAT5e performance (1Gbps), not CAT6a.
