Description
Our Caramella platter is a stoneware serving plate shaped like a wrapped sweet, with a twisted wrapper flaring out at each end. It is 25.5cm long, 10.5cm wide and 1.5cm tall, so it is a long, slim piece rather than a big sharing platter: sized for a row of mince pies or a handful of chocolates, not the whole roast. The decoration is painted by hand in a multicoloured scheme of neat spots across the centre, contrasting wrapper ends and a fine painted line around the rim, and stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing body.
We see it as a Christmas table piece first. Fill it with sweets and truffles for the coffee table, pass round biscuits when friends call in, or line up petits fours at the end of a festive dinner. The narrow shape slips into the gaps on a crowded table or along a slim sideboard, and because it is shallow, small treats sit flat where everyone can see them and help themselves. Once the decorations come down it keeps working: olives and a wedge of cheese with drinks, a few biscuits beside the teapot, or rings and keys on a dressing table or hall shelf.
The maker lists it as 100% stoneware and approves it for food, and it goes in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven. That means you can warm mince pies or sausage rolls on it in the oven, carry it straight to the table and put it in the dishwasher afterwards. It weighs 0.3KG, light enough to pass round the table by its wrapper ends. For styling, stand it on a plain linen runner or a pale wooden board so the painted spots and rim stand out, and leave it out between parties holding a few wrapped sweets as part of the decorations.

Frequently Asked
How big is the Caramella platter?
It is 25.5cm long, 10.5cm wide and 1.5cm tall, a slim serving plate for sweets, mince pies and small bites rather than a main course.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes. The maker lists it for the dishwasher and the microwave as well, so it can be cleaned with the rest of the plates after a meal.
Can I warm food on it in the oven?
Yes. The maker lists it for the oven, so you can warm mince pies or sausage rolls on it and bring it straight to the table.
What is it made of?
It is 100% stoneware with decoration painted by hand, and it weighs 0.3KG, so it is easy to pass round the table.
Can I use it after Christmas?
Yes. The wrapped-sweet shape suits the festive table, but it works all year for olives, cheese and biscuits, or for rings and keys on a dressing table.
