Description

These are two stoneware Christmas decorations in the shape of little angels, each painted by hand with a spotted dress, outspread wings and a sleepy, smiling face. The bodies are simple cones that stand on their own, topped with a head of bobbed hair and a tiny heart for a mouth, and the paintwork is multicoloured throughout. The pair come in two sizes: the smaller angel is 7cm long, 6cm wide and 8cm tall, and the larger is 9cm long, 7cm wide and 10cm tall, so they sit together as a little and large couple rather than identical twins.

At this size they suit small places where a bigger decoration would crowd things: the top of a chest of drawers, a bookshelf, a windowsill or the space beside a clock on the mantelpiece. Stood among candles and greenery down the middle of a Christmas table, they add a bit of colour at seated eye level, and they look just as at home beside a stack of wrapped presents. Because they are standing figures rather than hanging baubles, they need no tree at all, which makes them a good choice for decorating a flat, a desk at work or a room without space for a tree.

Both angels are 100% stoneware. Stoneware is a dense ceramic fired at high temperature, which gives it a hard, solid body. The decoration is painted by hand, so the spots, lashes and hair carry the small wobbles and variations of a brush, and no two dots on the dresses sit in quite the same place. Set the larger angel a little behind the smaller one so both pairs of wings show, and frame them with a sprig of greenery for an easy festive display.
