Description
Cam is a pair of large ceramic mugs, each 10cm high, 9cm across the body and holding 350ml. The body draws in slightly towards the foot and opens out again at the rim, and a wide loop handle springs from just under the rim and returns low on the side. The glaze is a creamy grey-white broken all over with dark brown speckle, dense enough in places to gather into a drift running down one side, and the darker clay underneath shows as a thin band at the rim and again at the foot ring.
At 350ml each takes a full mugful of tea or coffee, and at 10cm high with a 9cm body they are on the large side for daily use. Filled, the liquid sits just below the dark band at the rim. The handle is a wide open loop rather than a tight one, so a whole finger goes through it. The same speckled glaze runs inside the mug as well as outside, so the pattern shows as the mug empties.
Each mug is made by hand and fired in a small brick kiln lit by an open fire, slow work that depends on the skill of the potter. The glaze is reactive, moving in the heat to lay a mottled creamy layer over the darker body, so the speckle on one mug is never the speckle on the other and no two pairs are alike. Cam also runs as a coffee mug, a small jug, a lidded storage jar, a utensil holder and a set of dipping bowls, all in the same mocha.

Frequently Asked
How many mugs come in the set?
Two.
How much does each mug hold?
350ml.
Can they go in the dishwasher?
Yes. They are dishwasher safe.
How should I look after them?
Wash them after every use to stop staining, with a mild detergent, and do not leave them to soak. Handle them with care, as the rim and the foot can chip.
Will the two mugs match?
Not closely. The reactive glaze finds its own pattern in the kiln, so the speckle falls differently on each mug and differs again from batch to batch.
What are they made from?
Ceramic, fired in a small brick kiln lit by an open fire.
