Our Calana garden table is made entirely of iron and finished in black. It is 160cm long, 90cm wide and 75cm tall, with a long rectangular top whose corners are softly rounded, so the outline feels gentle rather than severe. The top is made of slim slats running its full length, and it stands on four slender round legs set a little in from each end. For a table made wholly of metal, it looks surprisingly light, and the black keeps every line crisp against grass, gravel or stone.

This is a table for the garden, the terrace or the patio, somewhere for family and friends to gather on long summer afternoons. At 160cm by 90cm the top leaves generous room for a game of cards or a board game spread out in full, a pile of seed catalogues and a notebook, or a row of pots waiting to be planted out. At 75cm tall it sits at the usual height for a table to which you pull a chair up, so it suits ordinary garden chairs rather than low lounge seating.
