Description

Byron is a stoneware candle holder built around its curves. A full, rounded base swells into a second, smaller bulge, pinches in at the neck and opens into a soft, wavy rim, so the outline reads like a little hourglass. Darker wavy stripes run from the base to the lip, following every bend of the cream body, which gives the piece movement even before the candle is lit. It stands 16cm tall and measures 10.5cm across, and it weighs 0.49KG: a compact size made for a single candle rather than a large centrepiece.

Its narrow neck takes one taper candle, which suits a bedside table, a mantelpiece, a hallway console or the middle of a dining table on a long evening. Because the body is so sculptural, it also looks finished unlit, on a bookshelf or a windowsill among a few favourite objects. The cream ground and soft stripes sit comfortably in a calm, natural scheme of linen, pale wood and plaster walls, and they bring a little warmth and movement to a more minimal room. A few grouped together with candles of varying heights make a relaxed arrangement, while one on its own is a quiet focal point for a small surface.

The body is 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-fired ceramic, finished in a reactive glaze.
