Bersama Rattan Bread Basket - Natural

A long, shallow basket woven from rattan, 36cm end to end, 15cm across and 7cm deep. The base is a flat oval woven close, and the sides rise short and flare slightly outward to a rim that is rolled and bound. The side weave is spaced rather than solid, with the uprights visible between the horizontal canes, and a crossed detail is worked in at each end and at the middle of each long side. The rattan runs from pale straw through to a grey brown.

The shape is a bread basket: long enough for an uncut loaf laid flat, and shallow enough that the loaf sits above the rim rather than down inside it. It takes a linen napkin folded in under the loaf. At 7cm deep it works flat on a table for rolls, fruit or a folded napkin set, and it stays low enough not to block the view across the table. It is food safe.

The basket is rattan throughout, rim binding included, and it is woven by hand, so the spacing of the uprights and the run of the crossed details shift from basket to basket. The weave is open at the sides, which is why a napkin is worth laying in first for anything loose or crumbly. How do I look after it?

Take the dust out with a soft bristle brush now and then, and wipe it with a soft, dry cloth only. Rattan will not take harsh chemical cleaning products, so keep them away from it.
