Bequai Open Glass Jewellery Box - Antique Brass

A jewellery box in glass set into a soldered brass frame, 23cm wide and 13cm to the top. The lower case is glazed on all four sides with a glass shelf across the middle, and its front is a hinged glass panel that drops down and forward on a small brass catch. On top of it sits an open tray, divided by brass bars into compartments of different sizes, small ones at either end and a longer one across the middle. The tray is a separate piece and rests in place rather than fixing to the case.

The lower case takes what stays put and is worth seeing through the glass, chains and bangles and a watch, split between two levels by the shelf. The open tray on top takes what goes on and comes off every day, earrings and rings, which can be picked out without opening anything. At 23cm wide and 8cm deep the whole thing sits on a dressing table or a shelf without taking much of it.

The frame is brass and the panels are glass. Every join is soldered by hand with traditional tools, so the weld marks fall in different places on each box and the brass reads darker where the solder has run. Nothing is polished out afterwards. Bequai runs to a honeycomb box and to two sizes of wall hung jewellery box.

Is the top tray fixed to the box?

No. It is a separate piece that rests on the case.

What is it made from?

Glass, set into a soldered brass frame.

Will every box look the same?

No. Each one is soldered by hand, so the weld marks on the joins fall differently.

How should it be looked after?

Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from it, as they will damage the finish.
