Description
The Belgrave is a linear pendant light that hangs three pleated paper shades from a slim black ceiling bar. The body is steel, finished in black, and the shades are white paper, folded into deep vertical pleats that round gently at the top and bottom like a soft lantern. It measures 88cm long, 18cm wide and 110cm high overall. Each shade takes an E27 screw bulb, which is not included, so you choose the brightness and colour of the light yourself. It is rated IP20, which means it is made for dry rooms indoors rather than a bathroom or a garden.
We like it most over a dining table, where the long bar lines the shades up along the table and puts light right where everyone sits. If you want a single fitting to light a whole table rather than a pool of light in the centre, a linear bar like this does the job. Paper softens and spreads the glow, so the light is soft and even rather than harsh, which suits a dining room or a kitchen diner equally well. The black and white pairing sits comfortably against wood, painted walls or a darker scheme alike. The pleats give each shade texture and shadow even before the bulbs are lit, so it looks considered by day as well as by night.
The fitting has no switch of its own; it is switched at the wall, so your existing light switch runs it. It takes a mains supply of 220-240V, 50/60Hz, and at 1.72KG it is a modest weight for its length. As a wired-in light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available to download. Paper is delicate and marks easily with water, so handle the shades gently when changing a bulb and keep them dry.
