This deep plate is made from stoneware, with a fine crackle running across its cream surface and a single fern leaf motif at the centre of the well. It measures 21cm across and 6cm tall, which places it somewhere between a plate and a bowl: wide enough for a generous main course, and deep enough to keep a sauce or a broth from running to the rim. The rim itself is not a perfect circle. It rises and dips gently around the edge, giving the plate a softer, less regular look than perfectly uniform tableware.

It is a natural fit for pasta, risotto, curries and stews, and for salads that need room to be tossed. It suits relaxed weekday suppers at the kitchen table as much as long weekend lunches with friends, and its cream colouring and botanical motif sit comfortably beside wooden boards, linen napkins and woven placemats.
