Description

The small wide Baba is the low, broad shape at its smallest: 34cm tall and 20cm across, swelling out near the base and drawing in sharply to a narrow neck. The glass is clear recycled glass worked by hand while it was still molten, so the wall carries dents and ripples all over it and no two catch the light the same way. A chrome collar caps the neck and carries a black lampholder with a shade ring, and the brown flex runs up inside the glass in full view.

This is a base only: no shade and no bulb. At 20cm across and 34cm tall it is the smallest of the eleven Babas and the one that fits a bedside table with room left beside it, or a shelf where the taller shapes would not clear. Clear glass adds almost nothing to a small surface visually, which is what makes it work there. It takes an E27 bulb, the cord runs 2.5m, the plug is UK and EU, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and hand blown, and the hammered surface is made while the glass is still molten, so no two bases carry the same pattern of dents. The collar and stem are chrome. The Baba range runs to eleven lamp bases in clear, green and burnt amber, in tall and wide shapes and in two sizes. Neither a shade nor a bulb is included.

Frequently Asked

Does it come with a shade?

No. It is the base only, with a black lampholder and a shade ring on top. Supplied without a shade.

What is the maximum bulb wattage?

It takes an E27 screw fitting. Fit no more than the maximum wattage marked on the lampholder.

How is it different from the small tall?

The small tall is 38.5cm high and 17cm across against 34cm and 20cm here. This one is the lower and the broader of the two.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it and take any shade off, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
