Avisa Mango Wood Table Lamp Base - Natural

The Avisa is a lamp base turned from a single piece of mango wood, with a spiral cut running the length of the column so the surface twists from the foot to the neck. The foot is a plain round disc 15.5cm across and the column rises 39cm to a brass lampholder with a shade ring. The wood is left pale and unstained, so the grain and the darker streaks in it show through. A rust coloured cord runs from the foot with an inline switch on it.

It is a base and nothing else: no shade and no bulb. At 39cm to the top of the holder it is a bedside or sideboard height rather than a floor standing one, and the narrow foot takes little room on a crowded table. The spiral is cut deep enough to throw its own shadow down the column, so the base has something to look at with the lamp off. It takes one E27 bulb up to 40W, the cord runs 2.5m with a switch on it, the plug is UK and EU, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The base is solid mango wood, carved from one piece, so the twist of the spiral and the run of the grain differ from one base to the next. The lampholder and its shade ring are brass. The Avisa range also holds a floor lamp base in the same turned mango wood. Neither a shade nor a bulb is included.

Does it come with a shade?

No. It is the base only, with a brass lampholder and a shade ring on top. A shade and a bulb are both bought separately.

Is there a switch on the cord?

Yes. An inline switch sits on the 2.5m cord, so the lamp is switched at the cord rather than at the socket.

Will the wood stay the same colour?

Mango wood changes tone over time. Oiling it will nourish the wood and may darken it, and the oil needs reapplying if it is washed off.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it, then wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Keep abrasive materials and harsh chemicals off the finish.
