Description

The Avisa is a floor lamp base carved from solid mango wood. A round disc foot 31cm across takes a tall column cut with a close set spiral ridge that winds the whole way up to a plain collar, where a black lampholder and a brass shade ring sit. The wood is left natural, so the grain and the darker streaks run straight through the carving, and the flex is rust coloured braid with a switch set on the cord near the floor. It stands 133cm to the lampholder.

This is the base alone, so the shade is chosen separately and its width is what decides how the lamp reads against a 31cm foot. At 133cm the lampholder sits well above the head of anyone seated beside it, which puts the bulb out of view from a chair and throws the light across the room rather than into a face. That suits a corner, the end of a sofa, or a spot beside a reading chair. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W and the flex runs 3.5m. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.

Mango wood is a hardwood and the column is carved from one piece, so no two bases take the ridge quite the same way and the colour runs from pale straw to a deeper honey within a single shaft.
