This is a small pestle and mortar made from 100% soapstone in grey, with a polished surface that feels smooth under the hand. The mortar is 10cm across and 7.5cm tall, a rounded bowl on a footed base with a gently flared rim. The pestle measures 3cm by 9.5cm and has a rounded knob at the top for your palm to press on. Soapstone is a soft natural stone with a faintly soapy feel. It weighs 1.19KG, so the mortar has real heft for its size and stays put while you work.
