Description

This pair of side plates brings two different bird patterns to the table, one on each plate. One is covered edge to edge in large, stylised birds in flight, finished with a fine line at the rim. The other scatters small birds across a densely speckled ground inside a broad border with a pointed inner edge. Both are made of stoneware, a dense, hard-wearing clay, and measure 20cm across and 3cm tall. That is a generous side plate size: large enough for a slice of toast or a wedge of cake, small enough to sit beside a dinner plate without crowding it.

At breakfast they take toast, croissants and jam; at lunch, a sandwich or a side salad; after dinner, dessert or a slice of tart. They suit a kitchen table laid for every day as much as a weekend brunch or an afternoon tea with friends. Because the two patterns differ, each person at a table for two gets a plate of their own, and together they make handy serving plates for biscuits, cheese or fruit. The multicoloured bird motifs give a cheerful, illustrated look that sits happily beside plain tableware and lifts a simple setting.

The pattern is applied as a decal, which gives the fine detail of every bird a crisp, printed clarity. The plates go in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven.
