Description

Six coasters and a stand, turned and carved from mango wood. Each coaster is 10cm across with a hole through the middle, and the face is carved in concentric rings of small triangles and chevrons around that hole, cut deep enough for the paler wood underneath to show against the surface. The stand is a turned disc with a spindle rising from the centre and a small finial at the top, and the coasters drop over the spindle and stack on it. Loaded, the stand stands 11.5cm high.

A coaster of 10cm takes a mug, a tumbler or the foot of a wine glass. The hole drops over the spindle, so the six stack together on the stand and stay in one place on a table or a worktop rather than going loose in a drawer. The stand holds the rest while one goes under a mug.

The wood is mango, taken for timber once the trees stop bearing fruit, and the tone and the grain vary from one coaster to the next within a set. The carving is cut into the wood rather than printed on to it. Six coasters and one stand come in the set.
