Description

The Amata tree topper is made from brass sheet, cut and folded by hand into long pointed petals that radiate from the centre, assembled around a brass pipe that runs through the middle and holds the pieces together. It stands 25cm tall and 25cm across, with 10cm from front to back. The finish is antique brass, left soft rather than bright.

Twenty-five centimetres across on ten of depth gives it real body: the points stand proud of one another in two offset layers, so it holds its shape from the side as well as head on. At 0.18kg there is very little weight on the leading shoot. Brass returns the light from the tree below it rather than producing any of its own, and an aged surface gives that back lower and warmer than a bright one would.

The metal is brass throughout, worked from sheet, so every piece is cut and set by hand and no two toppers carry quite the same arrangement. Amata also runs as a hanging star, a set of three baubles and a set of two brass star baubles.
