Description

A shallow round tray 17cm across, shaped from iron and finished in an aged brass. The whole of the inside is etched by hand with short fine strokes running out from the centre in rings, so the surface carries a close radiating texture rather than a drawn motif. The rim turns up and is left slightly uneven, wavering round the circle, and the brass darkens down in the etched lines and lifts to a warm gold on the flat between them.

At 17cm across it is a tray for small things rather than for carrying. It will hold a set of keys by a door, a watch on a bedside table, or a candle and a box of matches on a side table. It is made to lie flat rather than to hang on a wall.

The tray is iron under a brass finish rather than solid brass. Each one is shaped and then etched by hand, so the strokes fall differently on every tray and no two carry quite the same pattern. The aged finish sits darker in the etched lines than on the raised surface between them, which is what gives the texture its depth. It weighs 0.23kg and is sold singly.
