Description

A pair of short mugs in off white clay, each 6.5cm high and 8cm across, holding 200ml. The body is a straight sided cylinder with a thin rounded rim, and a small round handle loops off it high on the side. The glaze is smooth and off white, and over it the black splatter falls in marks of every size, from fine specks to long teardrops and heavier blots, denser round the upper half and thinning towards the base. The inside is left plain.

200ml is a short coffee rather than a mug of tea: a flat white, a cortado, an espresso with room in the cup. At 6.5cm high and 8cm across the mug is wider than it is tall, so it is held round the body as much as by the handle. Set beside a bowl in the same clay, the splatter is the only pattern in the group.

The mugs are white clay under a smooth glaze. The splatter is thrown on by hand, so the marks land differently on every mug and the two in a set will not match each other. The Ama mug is also made in a tall shape with the same splatter. Two come in this set.
