Description

This round stoneware mug has a tea strainer built into its rim. Beside the handle, a curved wall of clay pierced with small holes closes off one side of the opening, so loose-leaf tea can steep in the mug itself and the leaves stay behind that wall while you drink. It holds 460ml, which makes it a proper large mug rather than a dainty teacup, with room for a long, slow brew or a big morning coffee. The body is full and round, 10cm across and 10.5cm tall, and the mug weighs 0.5KG, so it has a solid, comfortable heft.

It suits anyone who prefers loose-leaf tea to bags but would rather not fetch a teapot for a single cup. Keep it by the kettle in the kitchen for the first brew of the day, take it to a desk for the working morning, or carry it to the sofa on a cold afternoon. Because the strainer is part of the mug, there is no separate infuser to lose in a drawer, which makes it a thoughtful gift for a tea drinker. It works just as well as an everyday mug for coffee, hot chocolate or tea from a bag, since the pierced wall takes up only a small part of the rim.

The mug is 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-wearing material that holds heat well. A blue glaze runs down the round body in long drips, and the speckled clay shows through at the rim and along the handle. Care is simple: it goes in the dishwasher, in the microwave for reheating a cooled cup, and in the oven. On an open shelf it looks best among plainer pieces, where the blue drips catch the eye, or hang it by its handle from a rail hook near the kettle.

Frequently Asked

How does the built-in strainer work?

A curved wall of stoneware, pierced with small holes, sits just inside the rim beside the handle. Put loose leaves in the mug, add hot water, and drink from the rim over the pierced wall so the leaves stay in the main body of the mug.

How much does the mug hold?

It holds 460ml, a generous large mug size, so it suits a big tea or coffee rather than a small cup.

Can it go in the dishwasher and the microwave?

Yes. The mug goes in the dishwasher and in the microwave, and it can go in the oven too, so everyday care is easy.

What material is the mug?

It is 100% stoneware, finished in a blue glaze that runs down the body in drips, with speckled clay showing at the rim and along the handle.

How big and heavy is it?

The mug is 10cm across and 10.5cm tall and weighs 0.5KG, so it has a comfortable, solid feel in the hand.

Can I use it without loose-leaf tea?

Yes. The pierced wall covers only a small part of the rim, so it works as an everyday mug for coffee, hot chocolate or bagged tea.
