Akurdi Bathroom Wall Light - Clear

The Akurdi single wall light stands one ribbed glass cylinder upright at the end of a cranked brass arm. The arm leaves a round wall plate horizontally, turns through a right angle and lifts the cylinder above and forward of the fixing, so the glass sits proud of the wall on two sides. The cylinder is capped in brass at the top and seated in a brass cup at the bottom, and the ribs run its full height. It stands 29cm tall and projects 20.5cm.

The glass is clear, so the lamp inside is part of what is seen, and the light leaves upward and downward from the ends of the tube as well as through its ribbed sides. That suits a position beside a mirror, where a pair either side puts light on both sides of a face instead of casting it from above. It takes one E14 bulb up to 25W and it is dimmable. It is rated IP44, so splashing from any direction is covered. The cord runs 50cm.

The cylinder is glass and the arm, plate and caps are iron finished in brass, with the fixing screw left visible on the plate rather than hidden behind a cover. The glass is moulded, so the ribbing and the small bubbles in it vary between fittings. The Akurdi range also holds a double version with two cylinders on a horizontal bar, and a taller vertical light made to sit flat against the wall. Bulbs are not included.

Does one give enough light beside a mirror?

One lights a face from a single side and leaves a shadow on the other. Most bathrooms take a pair, one each side, set at about eye height.

How far does it stand off the wall?

20.5cm, because the arm goes out before it goes up. That is enough to catch a sleeve in a narrow space, so allow for it beside a door or in a short run of wall.

Is the glass frosted?

No, it is clear and ribbed. The ribs break the light up without hiding the lamp, so the filament is visible through the tube.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let it cool, then a dry microfibre cloth. Nothing abrasive on the brass, and no harsh chemicals.
