Description

The Akurdi mirror light is a ribbed glass tube fixed upright against the wall and capped top and bottom in brass. There is no arm: the tube sits on the wall face and projects only 9cm, so it runs as a line up the wall rather than reaching out from it. The glass is clear and ribbed along its whole length, and two lamps sit inside it, one above the other. It stands 39cm tall.

A tall narrow fitting puts light down the side of a face rather than across the top of it, which is why a pair either side of a mirror reads differently from a single light above one. At 9cm wide and 9cm deep it takes almost no wall, so it fits the strip between a mirror and a corner or a cabinet where a light on an arm would not go. It takes E14 bulbs up to 15W. It is rated IP44, which covers splashing from any direction.

The tube is glass and the caps and back plate are iron finished in brass. The glass is moulded in a ribbed form, so the ridges and the thickness differ from one to the next. The Akurdi range also holds a single wall light on a cranked arm and a double light with two cylinders on a horizontal bar. Bulbs are not included.

Two, one above the other inside the tube, both E14 and neither over 15W. They are sold separately.

Does it need a pair to work?

One lights a face from a single side. Two, one each side of a mirror, is what the shape is for, and it removes the shadow a single light leaves.

With the middle of the tube at about eye height, so the two lamps fall either side of a face rather than above and below it.

How much wall does it need?

9cm of width and 39cm of height, and only 9cm of projection, so it fits a gap that a light on an arm could not reach into.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off at the wall and let the glass cool, then a dry microfibre cloth down the ribs. Keep abrasives and harsh chemicals off the brass.
