Description
The Agatarla is a single piece of clear recycled glass blown in the shape of a flask: a broad rounded belly drawing in to a long straight neck, open at the top where a brass rod passes down the inside to the lampholder. It hangs from a brass chain with a rust braided flex looped alongside it, and the brass ceiling plate is a plain shallow dome. The glass is clear rather than tinted, with the faint waves and thickness changes that come of blowing it by mouth. This is the large: 63cm tall and 40cm across.
Everything about a clear glass pendant depends on the bulb, because there is nothing to hide it: the bulb hangs in the middle of the belly in full view and its shape, its colour and its filament are half of what anyone sees. A long filament bulb suits the neck; a small round one leaves the upper half empty. At 63cm of glass plus the chain above it this needs height, so it wants a stairwell, a hall or a table where it hangs low without being walked into. It takes one E27 bulb up to 70W and it is dimmable, which matters when the bulb is this exposed. The flex runs 1.4m and it is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.
The glass is recycled and blown by hand, so the profile, the wall thickness and the small bubbles held in it differ from one pendant to the next. The fittings and the chain are brass. At 4.44kg the fixing wants to be into a joist. The Agatarla range also holds a small size. Bulbs are not included.

Frequently Asked
Which bulb should I use?
One you are happy to look at, because clear glass hides nothing. A long filament bulb fills the neck as well as the belly; a small round one leaves the top half empty.
How much height does it need?
63cm of glass before the chain is counted. It suits a stairwell, a hall or a table, and it will hang into the way in a room with an ordinary ceiling.
Is it heavy?
4.44kg, so fix it into a joist or a mount rated for the weight rather than into plasterboard alone.
Will every one look the same?
No. The glass is blown by hand, so the profile, the thickness and the bubbles trapped in it differ from one to the next.
How do I clean it?
Switch it off and let the glass cool, then a soft dry cloth. Keep harsh chemicals off the brass.
