Description
A pair of candlesticks forged from iron and finished in brass, and they are not a matching pair: one stands noticeably taller than the other and carries an extra swelling in its stem. Both are built the same way, from a deep cup at the top down through a waist and one or two rounded knops to a foot that flares out into a wide, smooth cone. The surface is worked all over with shallow hammer facets that catch the light in flat planes rather than curves, and the brass runs from pale gold on the high points to a darker tone in the hollows.
Stood together, the two hold their candles at different levels. The cups are sockets, so a taper drops straight in. The pair goes on a tray, a mantelpiece, a windowsill or the middle of a table, and the broad conical feet give each one a wide bearing, so they stand on an uneven surface such as a carved dish.
Both are iron, forged and then given an aged brass finish over the metal. Forging by hand leaves tool marks and small variations across every surface, so the hammer facets fall differently on each one and the two that arrive will not match each other exactly. Two candlesticks come in the set. The candles are not included.

Frequently Asked
How many come in the set?
Two.
Are the two the same size?
No. One stands taller than the other and carries an extra knop in its stem.
What candles do they take?
Tapers. Each cup is a socket, so the candle drops into it.
Are they solid brass?
No. They are forged from iron and given a brass finish over the metal.
How do I look after them?
Wash them with a mild dish soap and warm water after each use so wax does not build up, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from the finish. Stand the candles securely, keep them out of reach of children, wait until they have cooled fully before handling them, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
