Description
The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch isolates high-power fixed appliances such as electric cookers, ranges and water heaters. A red neon indicator on the faceplate shows when the circuit is live, providing clear status visibility without needing to check the rocker position. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines for full circuit disconnection.
Designed for residential and commercial kitchen installation, the switch fits a 2-gang plate footprint (147.5mm x 87.5mm) but controls a single 45A circuit. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, hiding all fixings behind an antique brass faceplate with a matching brass rocker. The switch requires a minimum 47mm back box depth and projects 9.3mm from the wall once fitted.
The antique brass finish is a darker, warmer tone than polished brass, with a satin surface that minimises fingerprints and reflections. Constructed from 201 stainless steel with an antique brass coating, the plate pairs well with traditional, Victorian and heritage-style interiors where contemporary chrome or white would sit uncomfortably. The 45A rating handles loads up to 10,350W on 230V mains, covering the full range of domestic electric cookers and induction hobs.

Frequently Asked
What appliances require a 45A DP switch?
Electric cookers, ranges, induction hobs and large-capacity water heaters typically require a 45A switch. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral, which is mandatory for fixed high-power appliances under UK wiring regulations. Check the appliance nameplate rating before specifying the switch.
What does the neon indicator show?
The red neon illuminates when the circuit is live, regardless of the rocker position. This provides a visual confirmation that power is available to the appliance and that the circuit breaker has not tripped.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The switch projects 9.3mm from the wall once the screwless cover plate is fitted.
Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?
Yes. The antique brass cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
