Description
The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch is a double-pole isolator rated for high-load circuits such as electric cookers, ranges and instantaneous electric showers, housed in a 2-gang width plate with a white square edge finish. The switch disconnects both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing full circuit isolation for maintenance or emergencies. The plate is constructed from thermoset resin with an anti-microbial coating tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the surface.
Designed for kitchens, utility rooms and bathrooms where a dedicated high-current isolator is required by building regulations, the switch fits a standard 47mm minimum back box depth and occupies the same wall space as a standard 2-gang switch or socket. The white square edge plate has a 9mm projection and includes screw cap covers that hide the fixing screws once installed, giving a cleaner finish than exposed screw heads.
The 45A rating handles continuous loads up to 10,350W on 230V supply, making it suitable for the majority of domestic electric cookers and large instantaneous showers. The thermoset resin construction provides heat resistance and dimensional stability under sustained high-current operation, while the square edge profile gives a defined border that sits flush with modern plastered walls. The IP20 rating confirms indoor use only.

Frequently Asked
What appliances require a 45A switch?
Electric cookers, ranges and large instantaneous electric showers typically require a 45A isolator. Building regulations mandate a local isolator within 2 metres of the appliance for safe maintenance. Check your appliance rating before selecting a switch.
What is double-pole switching?
Double-pole (DP) switching disconnects both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, providing full circuit isolation. Single-pole switches only disconnect the live. DP is required for high-current appliances under UK wiring regulations.
What back box depth is needed?
A 47mm minimum back box depth is required. The plate has a 9mm projection, giving a total wall protrusion of approximately 56mm once installed.
What does the anti-microbial coating do?
The thermoset resin plate is treated with an anti-microbial coating tested to ISO 22196:2011, which reduces bacterial growth on the surface. This is useful in kitchens and bathrooms where hygiene matters, though the plate still requires regular cleaning.
