Description

The Knightsbridge 45A cooker connection unit provides a dedicated 45A supply point for electric cookers and ranges, housed in a white rounded-edge plate with anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011. The plate is moulded from thermoset resin with a gently contoured 23mm profile and softened corners, designed to resist cracking under heat and impact better than standard thermoplastic faceplates.

Installed between the cooker circuit breaker and the appliance itself, the unit provides a safe isolation point for cooker installation and maintenance without needing to access the consumer unit. The large-capacity terminals accept cable cores up to 10mm² and use clamp fittings rather than screw terminals, reducing installation time and ensuring solid connections under repeated thermal cycling. A bottom knockout allows the outgoing cable to drop directly down into the cooker rather than looping back through the wall cavity.

The concealed fixing design hides the mounting screws behind snap-on screw cap covers once the unit is installed, giving a cleaner appearance than traditional visible-screw plates. The white finish suits neutral-toned kitchens and utility rooms, and the anti-microbial additive in the resin reduces bacterial growth on the plate surface in environments where hygiene matters. The unit is certified to BS 5733 and carries a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is a cooker connection unit used for?

A cooker connection unit provides a dedicated 45A isolation point between the cooker circuit breaker and the appliance. It allows electricians to disconnect the cooker for installation, maintenance or appliance replacement without needing to access the consumer unit, and provides a visible isolation point for safety.

What cable size does it accept?

The large-capacity clamp terminals accept cable cores up to 10mm². Most domestic cooker circuits use 6mm² or 10mm² cable depending on the cooker load and circuit length. The clamp fitting ensures a solid connection without the risk of screw terminals loosening under thermal cycling.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is required. The 23mm projection of the plate means the total wall projection once installed is approximately 23mm from the finished wall surface.

What does the anti-microbial finish do?

The thermoset resin includes an anti-microbial additive tested to ISO 22196:2011, which reduces bacterial growth on the plate surface. This is particularly relevant in kitchens and utility rooms where hygiene standards matter, though it does not replace normal cleaning routines.
