Description
The Knightsbridge 32A key card switch is a single-gang electrical control designed for hotel rooms and hospitality environments, where power needs to be tied to room occupancy. The switch cuts all connected circuits 30 seconds after the key card is removed from the slot, preventing lights, heating, and appliances from remaining active when the room is unoccupied. A backlit red arrow indicator shows the card insertion direction in low-light conditions.
Installed as the master control upstream of other room circuits, the switch handles loads up to 32A on 230V mains, making it suitable for controlling multiple circuits simultaneously including lighting, sockets, air conditioning and in-room entertainment. The 87.5mm square screwless faceplate fits UK standard single-gang back boxes with a minimum 47mm depth, and the built-in gasket provides a sealed edge against the wall surface once fitted.
The matt black finish on the steel and ABS construction gives a contemporary appearance that pairs with modern hotel interior schemes and residential smart-home setups. The screwless design means no visible fixings on the faceplate — the cover clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 and carries a 2-year warranty.

Frequently Asked
How does the 30-second delay work?
When the key card is removed from the slot, the switch waits 30 seconds before cutting power to all connected circuits. This gives occupants time to leave the room without lights cutting off immediately, and prevents accidental power cuts if the card is briefly removed and reinserted.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The switch itself projects 14.25mm from the wall once the screwless cover plate is clipped on.
Can it control air conditioning and heating?
Yes. The 32A rating handles combined loads from multiple circuits including lighting, sockets, heating, cooling and in-room entertainment systems. The switch is typically wired as the master control upstream of all room circuits.
Is the backlit arrow always on?
The red arrow indicator is backlit and visible when the switch is powered, helping occupants locate the card slot in low-light conditions. It does not flash or change state based on card insertion.
