Description

The Knightsbridge 32A key card switch controls power and lighting in hotel rooms, student accommodation and serviced apartments by requiring a room key card to activate circuits. When the card is inserted into the slot, the switch energises connected circuits up to 32A load; when the card is withdrawn, power cuts automatically after 30 seconds, turning off lights and non-essential outlets to reduce energy waste in unoccupied rooms.

Designed for hospitality and commercial accommodation installation, the switch fits a standard 47mm minimum back box depth and uses a screwless black nickel faceplate with a built-in gasket that sits flush to the wall. The backlit pink arrow on the card slot guides guests to the correct orientation in dark rooms, eliminating the fumbling that happens with unmarked slots. The 32A rating handles combined lighting, sockets and in-room appliances on a single control point.

The black nickel finish provides a dark metallic accent that suits contemporary hotel interiors and masks fingerprints better than polished chrome or brass. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 and carries an IP20 rating for indoor dry-location use. Premium-grade steel construction and ABS internal components give the mechanism durability under frequent daily use in commercial settings.

Frequently Asked

What happens when the card is removed?

Power to connected circuits cuts automatically 30 seconds after the key card is withdrawn. This delay allows guests to remove the card before leaving without immediately plunging the room into darkness.

What load can it control?

The switch is rated at 32A on 230V, allowing it to control combined lighting, sockets and in-room appliances on a single control point. This covers typical hotel room loads including multiple lamps, TV, kettle and charging devices.

What back box depth is required?

A 47mm minimum mounting box depth is needed for installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

What does the backlit arrow do?

The pink backlit arrow on the card slot illuminates to show guests the correct card orientation in dark rooms, reducing the frustration of repeated failed insertions when entering at night.
