Description

The Knightsbridge 32A key card switch is a single-gang wall switch designed for hotel room power control, activating mains circuits when a guest inserts their room key card and cutting power 30 seconds after the card is withdrawn. The switch carries a 32A rating, handling full room loads including lighting, sockets, climate control and entertainment systems on a single control point.

Designed for hospitality installation, the switch fits a standard UK back box with a minimum 47mm depth and uses a screwless anthracite faceplate that clips onto a metal sub-frame. The card slot sits centrally behind a backlit chevron indicator that glows softly in a darkened room, guiding guests to the insertion point without needing to search for the switch. The built-in gasket around the plate edge provides a weather-resistant seal where the faceplate meets the wall.

The anthracite finish is a dark grey metal tone that sits between matt black and gunmetal, pairing cleanly with contemporary hotel interiors and commercial joinery finishes. The screwless design means no visible fixings on the wall once installed, maintaining the clean aesthetic expected in higher-specification hospitality projects. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 for mechanical and electrical safety.

Frequently Asked

How long after card withdrawal does power cut?

The switch is designed to cut power to the room circuits 30 seconds after the key card is removed from the slot. This delay allows guests to re-insert the card if removed accidentally, and gives time for lights to remain on while leaving the room.

What is the 32A rating used for?

The 32A rating allows the switch to handle the full electrical load of a typical hotel room on a single control point, including lighting circuits, socket circuits, climate control units and entertainment systems. This is significantly higher than a standard 10A or 16A light switch.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is required for safe installation. The switch has a recessed depth of 31.5mm and a 4.3mm projection from the wall once the screwless cover plate is fitted.

Is the backlit indicator always on?

The backlit chevron indicator on the card slot glows when the room is in use and acts as a visual guide in low light. The exact behaviour (always-on or activation-only) depends on the wiring configuration during installation.
