20AX Intermediate Switch Module - Brushed Brass

The Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate switch module is a single-width Grid component finished in brushed brass, designed to control lighting from three or more switching positions within a Knightsbridge Grid mounting frame. The module carries a 20A rating at 230V, making it suitable for standard domestic lighting circuits and higher-load applications such as large pendant arrays or multiple spotlights on a single circuit.

Intermediate switching is used where a light needs to be controlled from more than two positions — for example, a landing light controlled from the ground floor, first floor and second floor, or a long hallway with switches at both ends and the middle. The intermediate module sits between two 2-way modules in the circuit, allowing the light to be toggled on or off from any position regardless of the state of the other switches.

The module clips into a Knightsbridge Grid mounting frame (sold separately) from the front, meaning no tools are needed to fit or remove the module once the frame is installed. The brushed brass finish presents as a warm metallic gold with a fine grain texture that reduces fingerprint visibility and pairs with traditional, classical and warm-toned contemporary interiors. What is an intermediate switch and when is it needed?

An intermediate switch allows a light to be controlled from three or more positions. It sits between two 2-way switches in a circuit. If you need to control a light from only two positions, you use two 2-way switches. For three or more positions, you need two 2-way switches at either end of the circuit and one or more intermediate switches in the middle.

Does this module work on its own?

No. The module must be fitted into a Knightsbridge Grid mounting frame, which is sold separately. The frame fixes to a standard UK back box and provides the structure that the module clips into from the front.
