Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate grid toggle switch module is a single-gang modular component designed to clip into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames (sold separately). The intermediate switching function allows lighting to be controlled from three or more points in a circuit, sitting between two two-way switches to extend multi-way control across longer hallways, staircases or rooms with multiple entry points.

Designed for residential and commercial grid installations, the module measures 56.3mm high by 24.8mm wide and fits into single, double, triple or quad-gang grid frames depending on the number of functions needed in one faceplate. The 20AX rating handles resistive loads up to 4,600W at 230V, making it suitable for standard lighting circuits including LED, halogen and incandescent fittings. The module requires a minimum 35mm back box depth for safe installation.

The matt white toggle sits on a steel and ABS body designed for grid system compatibility. The toggle action is centre-sprung to maintain tactile feedback across thousands of operations, and the module clips firmly into the rear of the grid frame without requiring separate fixings or screws once the frame is wall-mounted. The matt white finish pairs with Knightsbridge's matt white grid frames and other modules in the same range to build coordinated multi-function faceplates.

What's the difference between intermediate and two-way switching?

Two-way switches control lighting from two points (e.g. top and bottom of stairs). Intermediate switches sit between two two-way switches to add a third, fourth or fifth control point. You need at least two two-way switches and one or more intermediate switches to create a multi-way circuit with three or more control locations.

What grid frame does this module fit?

The module clips into any Knightsbridge grid mounting frame (sold separately). Grid frames are available in single, double, triple and quad-gang configurations in various finishes including matt white, polished chrome, brushed chrome and matt black. The frame is fixed to the back box first, then modules clip into the rear of the frame.

What's the load rating?

20AX at 230V resistive, handling up to 4,600W. This covers standard domestic and commercial lighting circuits including LED, halogen and incandescent fittings. The rating does not apply to motor loads or highly inductive circuits.

Can multiple modules be fitted in one faceplate?

Yes. The modular grid system allows multiple switches, sockets, dimmers and USB modules to be combined in a single two-gang, three-gang or four-gang grid frame. Each module occupies one grid position, so a triple-gang frame can hold three separate functions behind one faceplate.
