Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate grid toggle switch module is a single-gang component designed for multi-way lighting circuits, where a light or group of lights needs to be controlled from three or more locations. The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames (sold separately) from the front, fitting alongside other grid switches, sockets or dimmers to build a custom configuration.

Intermediate switches sit between two-way switches in a circuit and allow additional control points to be added without re-wiring the entire run. Common applications include long hallways with switches at each end and mid-point, staircases with landings, and large open-plan spaces where multiple entry points need independent control of the same lighting zone. The 20AX rating handles loads up to 4,600W at 230V, making it suitable for controlling groups of high-wattage halogen or LED downlights.

The brushed chrome faceplate has a linear brushed grain that diffuses reflections and pairs well with modern and contemporary switch ranges. The toggle mechanism is made from premium-grade steel with ABS housing, and the module requires a minimum 35mm back box depth behind the grid frame. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for dry indoor locations only.

An intermediate switch is used in multi-way lighting circuits where you need to control a light from three or more locations. It sits between two two-way switches in the circuit. If you only need control from two locations, use two two-way switches instead.

Does this module include the grid frame?

No. This is a switch module only. You need to purchase a separate Knightsbridge grid mounting frame that matches the number of modules you want to install (1-gang, 2-gang, 3-gang or 4-gang frames are available).

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 35mm back box depth is needed. The module itself is 15.3mm deep, with a 20.5mm projection once fitted into the grid frame.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means it is only suitable for dry indoor locations outside bathroom zones. For bathroom installation, check the specific zone requirements and use appropriately rated switches.
