Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX intermediate grid module is a single-width switching module in a smoked bronze finish, designed for use within the Knightsbridge Grid modular wiring accessory system. Rated at 20AX on 230V mains, it provides intermediate switching function for three-way or multi-way lighting circuits where lights need to be controlled from three or more locations.
The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames from the front without tools, allowing installers to build custom switch plates combining different functions (sockets, switches, dimmers, data points) within a single frame. Intermediate modules sit between two two-way switches in a circuit, enabling control from a third position — commonly used in hallways, staircases and large rooms with multiple entry points.
The smoked bronze finish is a dark metallic tone with a subtle bronze warmth beneath a charcoal-grey surface, pairing well with both traditional and contemporary interiors. The module measures 24.8mm wide, occupying one grid position within a multi-gang frame. The ABS and steel construction provides a 25-year warranty and IP20 ingress protection for standard indoor residential and commercial installation.

Frequently Asked
What is an intermediate switch used for?
An intermediate switch enables lighting control from three or more locations. It sits between two two-way switches in a circuit, adding a third (or fourth, fifth, etc.) control point. Common applications include staircases with landings, long hallways with multiple doors, and large open-plan spaces with several entry points.
Does this module include the mounting frame?
No. The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames, which are sold separately. Frames are available in 1-gang, 2-gang, 3-gang and larger configurations, and in matching finishes including smoked bronze.
What back box depth is required?
A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed. The module has an 18.7mm recessed depth and a 7mm projection from the frame once installed.
Can I mix finishes within the same frame?
Technically yes — modules clip into any Knightsbridge grid frame regardless of finish. However, mixing finishes on the same faceplate typically looks inconsistent. Most installers match module and frame finishes for a cohesive appearance.
