Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX DP grid module is a single-gang switch unit designed for the Knightsbridge Grid modular system, finished in black nickel. The module clips into position from the front of a separately-sold grid mounting frame, allowing custom switch configurations to be built within a single faceplate by combining multiple modules side-by-side.

Designed for residential and light commercial installations where switch layouts need more flexibility than pre-assembled plates allow, the grid system lets electricians and specifiers create bespoke combinations — mixing switches, sockets, dimmers and data modules within a 2-way, 3-way or 4-way frame. The 20AX rating handles loads up to 4,600W on 230V, making it suitable for high-draw circuits including water heaters, electric ovens and workshop equipment. Double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when off, providing additional safety over single-pole switching.

The module measures 24.8mm wide (one grid position), 56.3mm tall, with a 7mm projection from the frame once clipped in. The black nickel finish provides a darker, cooler metallic tone than polished chrome or brushed steel, sitting between gunmetal and pewter on the colour spectrum. The ABS body and steel contact assembly carry a 25-year warranty and an IP20 rating for dry indoor installation.

What is the Knightsbridge Grid system?

The Grid system lets you build custom switch and socket combinations by clipping individual modules into a shared metal frame. Frames are sold separately in 2-way, 3-way and 4-way configurations, each accepting the corresponding number of modules. The entire assembly then fits a standard UK back box.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed. The module has an 18.7mm recessed depth plus the depth of the grid frame itself, so a deeper 47mm back box is recommended if multiple modules or cable runs make the installation tight.
