Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX 2-way SP key switch module is a single-pole key-operated switch rated at 20A for 230V circuits, designed to clip into Curved Edge grid mounting frames. The module includes a removable key that must be inserted and turned to operate the switch, providing a mechanical lock-out for circuits where unauthorised or accidental operation needs to be prevented.
Designed for access control, plant room equipment, emergency lighting override and other applications where physical key security is required, the module fits into 25mm-wide grid apertures within Knightsbridge's Curved Edge system. The front-clip fitting allows the module to be installed or removed from the frame without dismantling the back box, simplifying maintenance and reconfiguration of multi-module grid plates. The 2-way switching allows the module to be wired as a simple on-off or as part of a two-way circuit with a conventional switch elsewhere.
The module body is moulded from white thermoset resin with anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, making it suitable for healthcare, education and hospitality environments where infection control protocols apply. The 20AX rating handles loads up to 4,600W at 230V, sufficient for most commercial plant equipment, large lighting banks and access-controlled machinery. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations with no direct water ingress.

Frequently Asked
What is a key switch used for?
A key switch requires a physical key to be inserted and turned before the circuit can be switched on or off. This prevents unauthorised operation of equipment, lighting or access control systems. Common applications include plant rooms, emergency lighting override, shop security shutters and industrial machinery start-up isolation.
What grid system does this module fit?
This module is compatible only with Knightsbridge's Curved Edge grid system. It occupies one 25mm-wide module space and clips into the front of a metal grid frame. It will not fit standard screw-fixed switch plates or other manufacturers' grid systems.
What back box depth is needed?
A minimum 35mm back box depth is required. The module itself has a recessed depth of 20mm once clipped into the grid frame.
Is the key removable in both switch positions?
Check the datasheet for key removal positions specific to this model. Some key switches allow key removal only in the off position (preventing the key being removed while the circuit is live), while others allow removal in both on and off positions.
