Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX key switch module is a single-pole 2-way switch marked 'EMG LTG TEST', designed for testing emergency lighting circuits in commercial and public buildings. The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames (sold separately) from the front, allowing it to be combined with other grid modules — sockets, data ports, TV outlets — in a single faceplate.
The key-operated switching mechanism prevents unauthorised activation of emergency lighting test modes, which is a requirement in many commercial installations under BS 5266 and BS EN 50172. The 20AX rating handles circuits up to 4,600W on 230V, making it suitable for controlling multiple emergency luminaires or entire zones on a single key switch. The module fits standard 35mm minimum back box depth and can be installed in surface-mounted or flush-mounted grid frames.
The matt white finish matches Knightsbridge's grid range and pairs cleanly with white or off-white walls in office environments, schools, retail spaces and hospitality venues. The ABS and steel construction provides durability under repeated key operation, and the IP20 rating suits dry indoor locations. The key is removable and one key fits all Knightsbridge key switch modules in the range, simplifying access control where multiple key switches are installed across a site.

Frequently Asked
What is this key switch used for?
This module is designed for testing emergency lighting circuits in commercial buildings. The 'EMG LTG TEST' marking indicates its function: switching emergency lights into test mode to verify they operate correctly during power failures. Key-operated access prevents unauthorised use.
Does it include the mounting frame?
No. The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames, which are sold separately. Grid frames are available in 1-gang, 2-gang and 3-gang configurations to accommodate multiple modules in a single faceplate.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 35mm back box depth is needed. The module itself has a recessed depth of 17.3mm and projects 2.5mm from the front of the grid frame once installed.
Is the key removable?
Yes. The key can be removed in either the on or off position, depending on how the installer configures the switch. One key fits all Knightsbridge key switch modules in this range, simplifying key management across sites with multiple key switches.
