Description

The Knightsbridge GDM006BB is a 20AX 2-way single-pole retractive switch module finished in brushed brass, designed to clip into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames (sold separately). The module uses momentary-contact switching — pressing the rocker activates the circuit, releasing it allows the rocker to spring back to centre position. This retractive action is typically paired with impulse relays or timed lighting circuits where a brief press triggers on/off control without holding the switch in position.

The module fits Knightsbridge's modular grid system, which allows multiple switches, sockets and control modules to be configured in a single faceplate. The grid system is commonly used in kitchens, home offices and commercial installations where multiple circuits need to be controlled from one location without installing multiple separate faceplates. The module requires a minimum 35mm back box depth and clips in from the front once the grid frame is wired and mounted, meaning modules can be swapped or added without removing the frame from the wall.

The brushed brass finish provides a warm metallic accent with a low-sheen surface that hides fingerprints and minor wear better than polished finishes. The rocker is marked PRESS to distinguish it from standard latching switches. The module body is ABS with steel contact components, rated IP20 for dry indoor installation and backed by a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is a retractive switch used for?

A retractive switch uses momentary contact — the rocker springs back to centre after being pressed. This is typically paired with impulse relays or timed circuits where a brief press toggles the circuit on or off, or activates a timer. It differs from a latching switch which stays in the pressed position until manually toggled again.

What grid frame does this module fit?

The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames, which are sold separately and available in various configurations (1 module, 2 module, 3 module, 4 module etc.). The frame is wired and screwed to the back box first, then modules clip in from the front.

Can modules be swapped without rewiring?

Yes. Once the grid frame is wired and mounted, individual modules clip in and out from the front without removing the frame from the wall. This allows modules to be swapped or added to change the switch configuration without re-wiring.

What other finishes are available in this range?

Knightsbridge produces grid modules in a range of finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, matt black, white and antique brass. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
