Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX 1-gang DP toggle switch module is a single-pole toggle control designed to fit into Knightsbridge Grid modular faceplates. The module measures 24.8mm wide (one grid position) and provides double-pole switching, meaning it isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off rather than breaking only the live line.

Grid modules are used in modular switch installations where multiple controls (dimmers, toggles, sockets) are assembled into a single shared faceplate rather than installing individual switches side-by-side. This allows flexibility in room layouts and reduces the number of back boxes needed on a wall. The module clips into the back of any Knightsbridge Grid plate (sold separately) and fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth once the grid plate is installed.

The matt white finish provides a low-sheen surface that minimises fingerprints and blends with white or light-coloured walls. The 20AX rating handles resistive loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, which covers most domestic lighting circuits including high-wattage halogen transformers and LED driver loads. The toggle actuator has a positive click action and requires approximately 18mm of clearance in front of the grid plate when fitted.

Knightsbridge backs the module with a 25-year guarantee, reflecting the premium-grade steel and ABS construction. The IP20 rating means the module is suitable for dry indoor locations only and is not rated for bathroom zones or outdoor use.

Frequently Asked

What is a grid switch module?

A grid module is a single control unit that clips into a modular faceplate rather than being supplied as a complete switch. This allows you to combine multiple controls (toggles, dimmers, sockets) into a single shared plate, reducing the number of back boxes needed on a wall and creating a cleaner layout.

What faceplate does this module fit?

This module fits any Knightsbridge Grid faceplate. Grid plates are sold separately in 1, 2, 3 and 4-gang configurations and in various finishes (chrome, brass, black, white). Each module occupies one grid position, so this 1-gang module would fit any grid plate with at least one available position.

What load can it switch?

The 20AX rating handles resistive loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains. This covers most domestic lighting circuits, including high-wattage halogen transformers and LED driver loads. For inductive loads (motors, transformers) the rating is lower — check the specification sheet for exact inductive ratings.

What does DP (double pole) mean?

Double pole means the switch isolates both the live and neutral lines when turned off, rather than breaking only the live line. This provides an additional safety margin for circuits where complete isolation is needed, though it is not required by UK wiring regulations for most lighting circuits.
