Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX 1-gang 2-way SP grid toggle switch is a modular switch component designed to clip into compatible grid mounting frames (sold separately). The toggle mechanism operates a single-pole 2-way circuit rated at 20A, making it suitable for controlling higher-load lighting circuits or appliances that exceed the 10A limit of standard light switches.
Grid systems allow multiple switch modules to be combined in a single faceplate, creating bespoke switch configurations for kitchens, utility rooms, commercial installations and anywhere that multiple circuits need controlling from one location. This module measures 56.3mm high by 24.8mm wide, occupying one grid space, and clips into the front of a grid frame without requiring screws or additional fixing once the frame is installed. The 2-way wiring supports switching the same circuit from two different locations.
The polished chrome finish gives a bright, reflective surface that complements stainless steel appliances, chrome taps and contemporary bathroom fittings. The toggle dolly sits proud of the faceplate, providing positive tactile feedback when switching. The switch mechanism is rated for 230V 50Hz AC and carries an IP20 rating for indoor dry-location use. Knightsbridge backs this module with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked
What is a grid switch system?
Grid systems use individual switch and socket modules that clip into a separate mounting frame, allowing you to create custom multi-gang configurations in a single faceplate. This module occupies one grid space (approximately 25mm wide) and requires a compatible Knightsbridge grid frame and mounting box.
What does 2-way single-pole mean?
2-way operation means the switch can control the same circuit from two different locations when paired with a second 2-way switch. Single-pole means it switches the live conductor only, rather than isolating both live and neutral like a double-pole switch.
What back box depth is needed?
A minimum 35mm back box depth is required. The module itself projects 20.5mm from the wall once the grid frame and faceplate are installed.
Can this switch handle higher loads than a standard light switch?
Yes. The 20A rating handles circuits up to 4,600W at 230V, compared to the 10A (2,300W) rating of most standard domestic light switches. This makes it suitable for controlling multiple high-wattage downlights, bathroom heaters, or other higher-load circuits.
