Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch features a polished chrome screwless faceplate with an integrated neon indicator and a chrome rocker. Rated at 20A, the switch handles fixed appliances drawing up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for water heaters, storage heaters, underfloor heating controllers and similar permanently-wired installations.

Double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the switch is turned off, providing additional safety for high-draw appliances compared to single-pole switching. The neon indicator glows red when the circuit is live, giving instant visual confirmation that power is flowing to the connected appliance even when the appliance itself is out of sight or not visibly operating.

The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, leaving no visible screws or fixings on the wall once installed. The polished chrome finish is mirror-bright and pairs with both contemporary and traditional interiors where a reflective metallic accent is wanted. The switch requires a 25mm minimum back box depth and is certified to EN 60669-1 for electrical safety.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is this switch rated for?

The 20A rating handles fixed appliances up to 4,600W on 230V mains. Common applications include water heaters, storage heaters, underfloor heating controllers and similar permanently-wired installations. This is not for plug-in appliances — those require a socket rather than a switch.

What does the neon indicator show?

The neon glows red when the circuit is live, confirming that power is flowing to the connected appliance. This is useful when the appliance itself is out of sight (e.g. a water heater in a cupboard) or when the appliance doesn't have its own visible power indicator.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The polished chrome cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring or the sub-frame.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 29mm from wall surface to the front face of the switch.
