20A 1 Gang DP Switch - Matt White Screwless

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang DP switch provides double-pole switching for fixed appliances rated up to 4,600W on 230V mains, such as immersion heaters, water heaters and towel rails. The matt white screwless faceplate sits flush against the wall with no visible fixings, clipping onto a separate metal sub-frame that mounts to the back box.

Designed for residential and light commercial installations, the switch suits kitchens, utility rooms, bathrooms (subject to zone requirements) and airing cupboards where immersion heaters or other high-draw fixed appliances require isolated control. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing additional safety over single-pole switches for appliances that remain permanently wired.

The 87.5mm square faceplate is constructed from premium-grade steel with a low-sheen matt white powder-coat finish that resists fingerprints and pairs cleanly with white or light-toned wall colours. The 4.3mm projection from the wall once fitted gives a minimal profile. The switch requires a 25mm minimum back box depth and includes an integrated gasket to seal against the wall surface. What appliances is this switch rated for?

The 20A rating handles fixed appliances up to 4,600W on 230V mains. Common applications include immersion heaters, water heaters, towel rails and some electric underfloor heating systems. Check your appliance's rated load before installation.

What does double-pole switching mean?

Double-pole (DP) switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, unlike single-pole switches which only break the live line. This provides a higher level of isolation for permanently-wired appliances.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means this switch is not suitable for installation within bathroom zones 0, 1 or 2 where water ingress is likely. It can be installed outside those zones, typically zone 3 or beyond, subject to UK Wiring Regulations Part P compliance.

Is the screwless plate removable for decorating?

Yes. The matt white cover plate clips onto a metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or wallpapering around the switch and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
