Description

The Knightsbridge CU150I is a 2-way intelligent dimmer module rated at 5-400W (5-150W for LED loads), switchable between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming modes via a front-accessible control knob. The module is supplied with a curved edge grid adaptor kit, allowing it to be fitted either into a grid system or directly into a standard unpopulated plate. The white finish matches standard white grid and plate systems.

Designed for retrofit installations where the load type may change over time, the CU150I allows the dimmer mode to be switched, trimmed and reset from the front of the plate without needing to remove the module from the back box. This makes it compatible with both traditional incandescent/halogen loads (leading-edge) and modern dimmable LED lamps (trailing-edge, factory preset). The rotary action dims smoothly across the full range, with a push action for on/off switching.

The module requires a minimum 35mm back box depth and is supplied with two dimmer caps — one for grid mounting within a modular grid system, and one for standard plate mounting when the grid adaptor is not used. The centred spindle position allows the module to be mounted in the middle of a multi-gang grid or plate configuration. All loads on a single dimmer must be the same lamp type, wattage and brand to avoid compatibility issues.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming?

Leading-edge dimming is designed for traditional incandescent and halogen loads, where the dimmer cuts the start of the AC waveform. Trailing-edge dimming is designed for dimmable LED and electronic transformer loads, cutting the end of the waveform instead. The CU150I can be switched between modes via the front control knob to match the load type.

Can I mix different LED bulbs on the same dimmer?

No. All lamps controlled by the dimmer must be the same brand, wattage and type. Mixing different lamp types or brands on a single dimmer circuit causes compatibility issues and can result in flickering, buzzing or premature failure.

How do I switch between modes or reset the dimmer?

The control knob on the front of the module allows mode switching, trim adjustment and reset without removing the module from the back box. Instructions for the specific sequence are in the downloadable specification sheet above.

What back box depth is needed?

A minimum 35mm back box depth is required. The module depth is 22.5mm, so the 35mm minimum allows clearance for wiring and heat dissipation behind the module.
