Description

The Knightsbridge GDM150IBN is a 2-way intelligent dimmer module in black nickel, designed for installation in Knightsbridge grid wiring systems including Screwless, Flat Plate, Raised Edge and Metal Clad ranges. The module auto-senses and switches between leading-edge and trailing-edge dimming modes to match the connected load, supporting 10-150W incandescent and halogen lamps, 10-150W low-voltage halogen with electronic transformers, and 5-150W dimmable LED lamps.

Designed for two-way switching circuits where a single dimmer controls a lighting circuit that can also be switched from another location, the module fits a 25mm-wide grid aperture and requires a 35mm minimum back box depth. The push-on/off mechanism and rotary knob provide direct control at the dimmer location, while a separate two-way switch elsewhere in the circuit can turn the load on or off without affecting the dimmed level set at the module.

The dimmer includes overload protection, over-temperature shutdown and an inrush current limiter to handle the surge draw from multiple lamps switching on simultaneously. Knightsbridge recommends a maximum of 10-12 lamps per dimmer to maintain stable performance and avoid exceeding the inrush protection threshold. The black nickel finish provides a dark metallic accent that pairs with both contemporary and industrial grid installations.

The module is a component for grid systems and requires a separate grid faceplate, sub-frame and back box (all sold separately). It does not function as a standalone dimmer without the supporting grid hardware.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between leading-edge and trailing-edge dimming?

Leading-edge dimmers work by cutting the front of the AC waveform and suit traditional incandescent and halogen lamps. Trailing-edge dimmers cut the rear of the waveform and suit electronic loads like dimmable LEDs and low-voltage transformers. This module auto-detects the load type and switches between modes automatically.

Can this be used as a standalone dimmer?

No. The GDM150IBN is a grid module component that requires a separate Knightsbridge grid faceplate, grid sub-frame and back box to function. It does not include the cover plate or mounting hardware needed for installation.

What does 2-way mean in this context?

2-way means the dimmer can be wired into a circuit with a second switch elsewhere that also controls the same lighting load. The second switch turns the lights on or off, while the dimmer module controls both on/off and dimmed level at its own location.

Why is there a 10-12 lamp limit?

Multiple lamps switching on simultaneously create a high inrush current as filaments heat or LED drivers charge. The dimmer's inrush current limiter protects the module from damage, but exceeding 10-12 lamps can trip the protection and cause unstable dimming. For larger installations, use multiple dimmer modules on separate circuits.
