2 Gang Ethernet Socket - Charcoal

Two ports on a single plate, and a front that clips on with no screw heads showing. This is a data socket for wired networking, finished in charcoal, with the modules set side by side behind a flat, unbroken face. It accepts Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling, so a standard patch lead from a router, a network switch or a structured wall run plugs straight in. We like the screwless plate in rooms that already have plenty going on, because the face reads as one clean panel rather than a piece of hardware bolted to the wall.

Both positions can be used at once, so a desktop and a printer, or a games console and an access point, each get a connection of their own. This is a low voltage data fitting with no mains power at the plate, and it belongs in dry indoor rooms: a study, a home office, a media wall behind the television, a cupboard where the networking gear lives. We would put one in wherever somebody works from home and wants a steady wired link instead of fighting for a wireless signal.

The plate and front are moulded polycarbonate in a matt charcoal, a soft dark grey that settles quietly against painted walls and looks deliberate on darker decoration. Cleaning is a dry or barely damp cloth over the face; leave sprays and solvents well alone, and keep moisture away from the port openings so the contacts stay dry. It carries a ten year warranty. Charcoal is the finish we hold for this one, and it works well in a scheme where the switches, handles and light fittings all lean dark rather than bright, giving a run of hardware that looks of a piece. Patch leads are chosen to suit the run, so they are bought separately.

What size is the plate?

It is a standard square plate, 88mm by 88mm, with a depth of 35mm behind the face for the modules and cable.

Will it take Cat 6 cable?

Yes. The socket is made for Cat 5 and Cat 6 data cabling, so it suits both older and current home network runs.

Can I use both ports at the same time?

Yes, each port is independent, so two devices can be connected at once, for instance a computer and a wireless access point.

Does it carry mains power?

No. It is a low voltage data fitting on Class 3 protection, intended for data circuits only, not for powering appliances.

What is the plate made from and how do I clean it?

The plate is polycarbonate in a charcoal finish. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth, or one very slightly damp, and avoid cleaning sprays, polishes and solvents.

Is it suitable for a bathroom or garage?

It is rated IP20 and made for indoor use in dry rooms, so a study, bedroom or living room rather than a wet or damp space.
