Description
The Knightsbridge 13A plug top is a white polypropylene 3-pin plug supplied with a replaceable 3A fuse and a screw-type cord grip. The plug body is moulded from white PP (polypropylene) with brass pins and an earth terminal, rated for 230V 50Hz mains supply. The screw cord grip secures the cable jacket inside the plug body, preventing strain on the internal terminals when the cable is pulled or flexed.
Designed for domestic appliances and low-power devices drawing up to 690W on the 3A fuse, the plug suits table lamps, bedside lamps, radios, phone chargers and similar loads where a 3A rating is sufficient. The plug measures 52mm high, 50mm wide and 42mm deep, with a 20mm projection beyond the pins. The white finish blends into white skirting boards and walls when plugged into surface-mounted sockets.
The plug carries BS 1363-2 certification and the BSI Kitemark, confirming compliance with UK safety standards for domestic plugs. The fuse is user-replaceable by removing the rear cover with a flat-blade screwdriver, allowing the fuse to be upgraded to 5A or 13A if the appliance load changes. The Class I construction requires connection to an earthed socket for safe operation.

Frequently Asked
Can the fuse be replaced or upgraded?
Yes. The rear cover removes with a flat-blade screwdriver, allowing the fuse to be replaced. The plug is supplied with a 3A fuse, but can accept 5A or 13A fuses if the appliance load requires it. Always match the fuse rating to the appliance power draw.
What is a screw cord grip and how does it work?
The screw cord grip is a clamp inside the plug body that tightens around the cable jacket when the rear cover is screwed down. This prevents strain on the internal wire connections if the cable is pulled or flexed during use, reducing the risk of loose terminals over time.
What appliances suit a 3A fuse?
A 3A fuse is rated for appliances drawing up to 690W on 230V mains. Typical applications include table lamps, bedside lamps, DAB radios, phone chargers, small fans and similar low-power devices. Higher-draw appliances such as kettles, toasters or heaters require a 13A fuse.
Is this plug safe for outdoor use?
No. The IP20 rating means the plug is protected against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but has no water ingress protection. It is designed for indoor use only in dry locations.
