Description

The Knightsbridge 13A 2-gang unswitched socket provides two 13A outlets behind a white rounded-edge plate made from thermoset resin. The plate measures 146mm wide by 86mm tall with a 7mm projection from the wall, and includes screw cap covers to hide the fixing screws once installed. The anti-microbial surface is third-party tested to ISO 22196:2011, providing added hygiene in kitchens, care homes, healthcare facilities and high-touch commercial environments.

Designed for residential and commercial installation where permanent power is needed without switched control, the unswitched configuration suits appliances that remain connected continuously — kitchen countertop appliances, bedside lamps left on timer switches, or office equipment that draws standby power. The socket fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and includes twin earth terminals for safe connection. Each outlet is rated to 13A, handling standard UK appliance loads up to 3,120W per outlet.

The white thermoset resin construction resists yellowing and impact damage better than standard thermoplastic faceplates, while the rounded edges reduce the risk of chip damage during installation or when moving furniture. The plate is IP20 rated for indoor use only. Knightsbridge backs this socket with a 25-year warranty and certifies it to BS 1363-2 for compliance with UK wiring regulations.

Frequently Asked

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The 7mm plate projection brings the total depth to approximately 32mm from the wall surface once fitted.

What does unswitched mean?

Unswitched sockets provide permanent power to the outlets without individual on/off switches. They suit appliances that remain plugged in continuously, such as kitchen countertop appliances or equipment that needs to maintain standby power.

What does the anti-microbial rating mean?

The plate surface has been tested to ISO 22196:2011, which measures reduction of bacterial growth on treated surfaces. This is useful in kitchens, care facilities and healthcare environments where hygiene is prioritised.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means this socket is suitable for indoor dry locations only. UK wiring regulations prohibit 13A sockets in bathroom zones — use shaver sockets or pull-cord switches instead.
