Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX fan isolator switch provides triple-pole isolation for bathroom extractor fans, kitchen extractors and utility room ventilation units behind a polished chrome screwless faceplate. The triple-pole mechanism isolates live, neutral and switched live simultaneously, allowing the fan to be safely serviced while the lighting circuit remains live.

Designed for bathrooms, en-suites, kitchens and utility rooms where an extractor fan needs a dedicated isolator separate from the lighting switch, the 10AX rating handles typical residential fan loads up to 2,300W at 230V. The switch mounts in a 16mm minimum back box depth and uses a screwless cover plate that clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. The rocker is clearly labelled 'FAN ISOLATOR' with ON/OFF/O positions marked.

The polished chrome finish provides a bright metallic surface that reflects light and pairs with chrome taps, shower fittings and bathroom accessories. The premium-grade steel construction carries IP20 rating for indoor dry-area use and conforms to EN 60669-1 and EN 60669-2-4 standards. The fitting comes with a 25-year manufacturer warranty covering mechanical failure under normal domestic use.

What is a fan isolator switch for?

A fan isolator allows you to turn off an extractor fan for cleaning, filter changes or servicing while keeping the bathroom or kitchen lighting circuit live. The triple-pole design isolates live, neutral and switched live simultaneously for safe maintenance.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes, but placement depends on bathroom zones. The IP20 rating suits zones outside the direct splash areas (typically Zone 3 or outside zones). For installation within 60cm of a bath or shower enclosure, consult a qualified electrician to confirm compliance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.

What back box depth is required?

A 16mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm projection from the wall once fitted.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The polished chrome cover clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
